Insurrection was in the air then but it’s not over… It’s NOT over!
Just a few months before Jimi died there was a music festival in New York City just over the bridge from the African American ghetto called Harlem at a small soccer stadium on an island, Randalls Island, that was mainly used as a municipal garbage dump. EVERYONE showed up, the security was lax, and the show went on… for free.
I was there and vaguely remember the single camera film crew on the roof of the clubhouse at the back of the stadium. SOMEONE (Robin Palmer, Marty Lewis, and Sam Melville) drew down the American flag and raised the NLF flag on the clubhouse flagpole during Leslie West and Mountain’s performance, while the camera crew, in the process of filming it, illuminated that scene quite nicely for the whole crowd to see.
Insurrection was in the air then… It’s been a long time comin’ and it’s been a long time gone.
But it’s not over… It’s NOT over!
#AmericanSpring and M1GS are right around the corner.
