«o» In yesterday’s Republican primary Mitt Romney won in Idaho, Massachusetts, Vermont, Virginia, and Alaska while holding the lead in Wyoming with 56% of the vote and 26% of the vote counted compared to Rick Santorum’s 30% currently. Santorum took Tennessee, North Dakota, and Oklahoma, Gingrich took Georgia, and Ron Paul had none. Next are some Southern state primaries where Santorum may do better in Mississippi and Alabama, but it’s pretty much all over, with Mitt Romney appearing to be the Republican presidential contender for 2012.

«o» President Obama has OK’d new talks with the Iranian government about their nuclear power program while Iran has said it will allow the IAEA and US inspectors into their military facilities.

«o» In Afghanistan six British soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in the capital of Helmand province. It’s winter in Afghanistan and no one from the West patrols outside the cities in those bitter conditions so the Taliban seem to be bringing the fight to the West.

«o» Apple Corp has invited guests for a viewing of it’s new iPad in San Francisco today, and it appears the media is the ‘guest’.

«o» Senator John McCain is holding hearings on US military policy towards Syria with Secretary of Defense Panetta on the stand today, while in Syria, the government has blown up the bridge connecting the country to Lebanon to staunch the flow of refugees out of the country ahead of a Libya-like invasion of the country by NATO.

Extending New Orleans Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras celebration backwards to the weekend in an attempt to commercialize it for the nuevo-gentry moved into the gentrified-in-the-wake-of-Katrina city has backfired… It rained… heavily at times, over the weekend.

«o» Iran has banned oil exports to France and Britain with most of Europe to follow in April as retaliation for their go-it-alone sanctioning of the country for it’s non-existent ‘nuclear weapons program’. The price of oil is beginning to rise globally with $5 dollar a gallon gasoline expected in the US within a few months. Expect a closure of the Straits of Hormuz for naval exercises shortly further shutting of the oil teat to the West.

«o» We don’t understand why anyone listens to him but former presidential candidate John McCain has come out in favor of arming the Syrian ‘rebels’ and providing Special Operations personnel to assist. It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that NATO has already done this, and even the Wikipedia entry for Libya is noting the recently enthroned CIA/al-Qaeda affiliated ‘rebels’ in Libya are supplying arms and logistics, even as that country moves towards civil war.

«o» Yemen’s elections are being held today with the most likely winner to be the Vice President installed by former president Saleh

«o» The $170 billion dollar bailout for Greece is still hanging fire with the EU finance ministers meeting for 13 hours yesterday. A paper circulating in the group claims $170 billion dollars won’t be enough, which may cause not only the bailout, but Greece as well, to fail.

«o» The Florida primary turned out as predicted with Mitt Romney receiving 44% of the vote and Newt Gingrich 31-32%. Rick Santorum and Ron Paul split the difference. Romney benefited from an early count of the vote by mail where he already had a lead. Gingrich swore he’s stay on until the convention along with Paul, who’s trying to accumulate delegates for his plank of the Republican platform, and everyone is still wondering where Santorum is getting the money to continue his campaign.

«o» Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks is in a two day extradition hearing in Britain for failing to use a condom in Sweden a few years ago with a couple of women who are now accusing him of a type of rape because of that failure to wrap his rascal. Sweden is the only country in the world with that ‘failure to act’ being considered a crime.

«o» Believe it or don’t… With the Pakistani government under fire by it’s citizens due to NATO actions in the country, a leaked NATO study says over 10,000 captured fighters have been interrogated and the findings… According to NATO… The ISI, the Pakistani CIA, has been supplying weapons to the Waziri, Pakistani, and Afghan Taliban with full support from the Pakistani government which of course is continually worried about being overthrown because of Western actions in the country.

«o» Meanwhile the Russians are continuing to block sanctions against Syria at the UN Security Council.

«o» The Florida primary is in progress but it will be about eight hours until we start seeing the results. Meanwhile Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney are still insulting each other while EVERYONE is wondering where Rick Santorum’s campaign funds are coming from.

«o» Mic Check In Tahrir Square - The Egyptian protesters are demanding the military ruling junta turn over the government to their recently elected civilian government now while the military is clamping down on ‘international universities’ and searching for their Egyptian students… Then there’s the NGO the US Secretary of Labor’s son works for… The International Republican Institute… Six of the employees including the Secretary’s son have taken refuge at the US embassy.

«o» The senate voted to curb insider trading by congressional and senatorial representatives yesterday. The vote was 93-2 Aye but the measure has yet to pass the house. Even if it does pass , expect no enforcement.

«o» There is a one day strike by unionized Kaiser-Permanente nurses throughout California today in an attempt to force the HMO to allow collective bargaining by nursing aides and other lower level staff. The last one day strike cost Kaiser $14 million dollars.

«o» More of a “Snake Farm” than it ever was - People have been dumping their pet Boa Constrictors in the Florida Everglades, which is the perfect environment for the HUGE WHEN FULLY GROWN reptiles. However, The Everglades contains no natural predators and the massive number of eight foot fully grown pythons resulting from that eco-imbalance is causing the count of small critters like bobcats and raccoons to plunge dramatically. «o» Besides, do you trust the Persians with nuclear weapons any less than other nuclear powers like Israel, Pakistan, or South Africa? Iran has opened up their nuclear facilities and paperwork to outside inspection, meaning everyone but the United States, in an attempt to get the UN to call off it’s sanctions negotiations. There has been Russian opposition to the sanctions in the Security Council and IF there is no evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons technology when those papers and facilities are examined, the West is going to be sanctioning a country that is not in violation of any international law all…by… themselves.

«o» The Florida primary race is in full swing even as Rick Santorum heads headed home for the weekend to visit his child ill in the hospital and he’s not expected to be a contender, leaving Romney and Gingich, and Ron Paul.

«o» There were 400 people arrested or detained over the last couple of days as #OccupyOakland attempted to #Occupy the city’s abandoned convention center. When rebuffed they headed for Oakland city hall, during open lobby hours, and caused a major disturbance and some damage inside… there have been running street battles since and an attempted occupation of a YMCA building.

#OccupyOakland responds to what only could be termed a police riot, and the disinformation campaign that followed:

Occupy Oakland’s building occupation, an act of civil disobedience, was disrupted by a brutal police response yesterday. Protesters were met with baton strikes, shot with rubber bullets, and exposed to tear gas along the route. Police immediately issued denials that tear gas was used; however, as many victims can attest, it was used freely and without regard to safety of the diverse crowd, which included families and children.

The OPD and City have issued several false claims that need to be rebutted. OPD claim that there was no tear gas used, a fabrication easily refuted by video shot by protesters. Police also claim that several officers were injured by protesters—again, there is absolutely no evidence of this claim, which is made at every demonstration and subsequently proven to be baseless… [More]

«o» In Iraq there has been a second car bombing in three days which the government is saying are al-Qaeda actions designed to enflame Sunni sentiments and cause a Sunni/Shiite schism. But the final documents regarding Western security in the country are being looked over right now, so it COULD be people aligned with the currently standing power structure wanting ‘security’ in place to help them maintain power as well. FWIW, the Sunnis have decided to re-enter the Iraqi parliamentary process but they aren’t going to attend the sessions. Perhaps they’re worried about those attacks?

Correction… The other day it was reported that six Western students have been detained in Egypt including the son of the US Labor Secretary… That report was erroneous on my part.

They are not being allowed to leave the country and have taken refuge at the US embassy in Cairo. Further, they were not students but employees for an NGO, the International Republican Institute, which the Egyptian government is claiming as fomenting disruption in the country. Details.

«o» Republican presidential contender Jon Huntsman suspended his campaign yesterday allowing him to recoup the money he spent on his most likely finished campaign run, and last night’s sixteenth debate for the Republican presidential nomination was a Rat Pack gang up on Mitt Romney. «o» The results are in from the three stage elections in Egypt with the Muslim Brotherhood garnering 42% and the other major party, the New Breed, getting 25%. The US will have no problem consorting with the Muslim Brotherhood-run government considering that party is essentially the PNAC/NeoCons/Secularized (ie. State) religion fascists of Egypt and we send Egypt millions of dollars a year to support their military.

One of the Brotherhood’s founder even attended the same Leo Strauss lectures as Paul Wolfowitz and other notable American fascists when Strauss was teaching everyone about the “Noble Lie” at Chicago. The entertainment industry usually gets its way in DC—but it was no match for Reddit, Wikipedia, and BoingBoing.

Only two American industries have ever had the clout in Washington to force Congress to ban Wall Street from trading futures on their products. The first is onions—futures trading in no one’s favorite root vegetable was banned in the 1950s after farmers protested that Chicago speculators were manipulating prices. The other ban is more recent: In 2010, at the urging of the Motion Picture Association of America, one of Capitol Hill’s most powerful lobbies, Congress banned movie futures as part of the Dodd-Frank financial regulatory reform bill.

The big studios took on Wall Street—which isn’t known for losing lobbying fights—and won. So this month, when all the big entertainment companies joined forces with Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform and the US Chamber of Commerce, the nation’s foremost big business lobby, to fight for sweeping anti-piracy legislation, it was almost a foregone conclusion that they would get what they wanted.
