A Synopsis Of This Morning’s News…
H/t to ChrisM my MP3Angel for supplying the audio files.

«o» President Obama reached out to Iran for the Persian New Year saying he wanted to open talks and attempt to wind down the rhetoric about their nuclear power program. Some US Republicans and some Iranian theocrats holding political office In Iran are denouncing the president’s move. I’d conjecture on the similarities between the two but good taste implies I desist lest the Iranian theocrats seem more reasonable in their opinion of president Obama.

«o» A US English teacher has been assassinated in a Yemeni university town leading to the distinct possibility that all US citizens in the country are in danger despite the fact that our drone strikes are continuing to wipe out that county’s population a few citizens at a time… Or perhaps that’s the reason US citizens are in danger there.

«o» The transportation bill passed last week by the Senate is now in the house of representatives, and despite the fact that the entire transportation infrastructure of the country will begin disintegrating if the bill isn’t passed by the end of the month, in it’s first day back in session, the house Republicans spent the whole day haggling over the use of 32 acres of federal land.

«o» The results for the Illinois Republican primaries are pretty much in and Romney, lagging the predictions, took the race by 12 points. There are a couple of other primaries coming up this week.

In OTHER News:

Since the MSM doesn’t seem to be covering the Syrian destabilization campaign, yours truly will, and this group of clips may explain why the West has dropped their coverage like a hot Falafel:

It has been confirmed that members of Libya’s Al Qaeda affiliate, the NATO-backed LIFG ‘rebels’, are now literally leading the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA).

In recent months, a certain number of Arab newspapers, favorable to the Al-Assad administration, discussed the infiltration into Syria of 600 to 1,500 fighters from the Islamic Fighting Group in Libya (IFGL), rebranded Al Qaeda in Libya since November 2007. In late November 2011, the Libyan press reported the attempt by the Zintan militia to detain Abdel Hakim Belhaj, companion of Osama Bin Laden [2] and historic leader of Al Qaeda in Libya, who became military governor of Tripoli by the grace of NATO [3]. The scene took place at Tripoli airport, as he was leaving for Turkey. Finally, Turkish newspapers mentioned Mr. Belhaj’s presence at the Turkish-Syrian… [In Full @ VoltaireNet]
Let it also be noted that the Syrian ‘rebels’ are also engaged in a campaign of murder and torture… Just like their Libyan counterparts:

The (Human Rights Watch) report indicates that Syria’s opposition, like the NATO-backed rebels in Libya, are lawless, unprincipled, sectarian, extremists. They are far from “democracy activists” or “unarmed, helpless civilians,” and very far from being “victims” of a disproportionate use of force… [More from LandDestroyer]
Meanwhile Middle East Report Online addresses at least part of yours truly’s longstanding theory that the Syrian destabilization op currently in progress, although apparently no longer MSM newsworthy in the absence of anti-Syrian-government war porn, has A LOT to do with the Kurds. It doesn’t address my hypothesis that the Kurds will attempt a breakaway state on the Iraq/Iran border, steal oil, and transit it to Kirkuk, across Iraq and Syria, meaning Syria’s Assad needed to be removed or ‘put on notice’ regarding any attempt to impede the purloined oil, but there’s a lot of detail in this article that points towards that possibility.

Denise Natali lays out all the “Syrian Kurdish Cards,” @ MERO.

A Synopsis Of This Morning’s News…
H/t to ChrisM my MP3Angel for supplying the audio files.

«o» The Republican Missouri caucus is coming up on Saturday and the Illinois event happens next Tuesday. Meanwhile Rick Santorum is in Puerto Rico where he’s pitching for their votes and told an audience in regard to Puerto Rican statehood that they’d have to pass an English test! He seems to have forgotten that Puerto Ricans are American citizens despite the fact he was stumping for their votes, and what he claims has no basis in federal or constitutional law. Good thing he was only talking to the territory’s Republicans. They don’t care about those silly things.

«o» The pressure for a diplomatic solution to Iran’s nuclear program have picked up with the Saudis pledging to take up the slack if the Western oil embargo and sanctions affect the West’s oil supply. However if the Iranians make good on their promise to close the Straits of Hormuz India, China and Japan would be more than willing to purchase the Iranian oil so the boycott probably won’t have any substantial effect except to fill the authoritarian Saudi’s treasury. FWIW, the Iranians control the Straits under international law and they can close it if they want to, so any war made as a result of that closure would be an outlaw war… as if the nations who would fight that war on Iran care.

«o» Fourteen Turkish troops have been killed by an IED outside of Kabul Afghanistan where they are ‘working in a support role’ and a preliminary Afghan parliamentary investigation has concluded that there was more than one person involved in the massacre of those Afghani civilians last week. More on that here.

A Synopsis Of This Morning’s News…
H/t to ChrisM my MP3Angel for supplying the audio files.

«o» There are primaries and caucuses in Alabama, Mississippi, the Virgin Islands and Guam today. If Mitt Romney doesn’t carry Alabama and Mississippi he’ll have a hard time with his Southern strategy.

«o» The fight is already on as to where the trial for the Army sergeant who just massacred sixteen Afghan civilians will be held. The Pentagon is claiming the trial will be held under Court Martial rules using the Uniform Code of Military Justice but the Afghan government is saying they expect a civilian trial under Afghanistan’s laws. Lets see… Not military action… Kills civilians as an ‘independent actor’… The latter seems to be the appropriate route, but YOU BET that’s not what’s going to happen with the Pentagon saying the soldier will be out of the country within 48 hours.

You can hear the clamor and cries in the halls and chambers of US government to speed EVERYONE’S exit from the country while president Obama says “We shouldn’t rush to the exits” out one side of his two faces as he apologizes for atrocities committed by our soldiers from the other ‘face’.

Meanwhile, let it be said without denying this tragedy in a war that is NOTHING BUT a continuing tragedy for the people of Afghanistan, that American soldiers ARE victims themselves, of a deceptive lying (Osama bin-Laden spent most of his hiding time in Pakistan NOT Afghanistan) government… OUR GOVERNMENT, that put them in harms way, and in this case recycled the soldier FOUR TIMES into a combat zone… Because the US government DEPENDS on a small army, lest there be a military draft for our Imperial wars, which means EVERYONE in America gets to meet troopers who have been destroyed in any number of ways by war, or lost a friend, relative, or lover to a war. Not a pleasant proposition for a nation raised on bloodless video game violence.

The protests in regard to that civilian massacre are just… getting…started in Kandahar, Kabul, and other larger towns. Expect those protests to spread and get more violent in light of the Taliban’s statement that they’ve ordered their fighters to begin attacking everyone and anyone in the employ of the US or NATO, and their facilities throughout the country.

«o» Egypt has managed to monger together a truce between Israel and the Palestinians in Gaza after four days of tit-for-tat rocket attacks and air bombardments.

«o» The House of Representatives has gone home to hustle their constituents for re-election and the senate will break later today or tomorrow after they figure out how to gut the Transportation bill. More.

«o» There will be protests in Oakland and elsewhere in California today over a provision in the new state budget that would cut animal shelter funding and reduce the ‘wait-time till destruction’ for errant pets to three days. Details.

In OTHER News:

Let it be noted that your government is SCARED OF YOU… So what do we do?

The world’s leaders flee from us … so what do we do? Maybe we just laugh at them?

ADBUSTERS: TACTICAL BRIEFING #27 – #LAUGHRIOT

Alright you wild cats, nimble dreamers and jammer tacticians,

In a sudden about-face, the United States has conceded a victory to Occupy and moved May’s G8 summit to Camp David, an impenetrable military base in rural Maryland.

Wow! Looks like the specter of 50,000 occupiers ready to swarm with a list of demands has turned the climactic Showdown in Chicago into a humiliating G8 Backdown. Bravo! Splitting the G8 and NATO summits was a deft move… but now we’ve got a major tactical rethink on our hands.

The big question is do we follow Mao’s advice (“when the enemy retreats, we pursue”) or Sun Tzu’s (“Do not pursue an enemy who simulates flight”)?

We’ve heard persuasive arguments on all sides. Some occupiers say the movement should lay chase and go for #OCCUPYCAMPDAVID against all odds … a month of tree-sits, lockdowns and nomadic encampments in the woods and nearby Thurmont. Others believe it’s best to up the ante with #OCCUPYCHICAGO: an even bigger mobilization beginning with the May Day General Strike. Still others advocate an unpredictable everywhere-at-once global insurgency of anarchic swarms throughout the month of May….

When Ben Ali first attacked then tried to hide from his people, he was toppled. When Mubarak refused to negotiate and tried to beat his people back into line, he was deposed. Now the White House and the G8 are repeating the mistakes of last year’s autocrats … first they try to scare us with tough talk of repressive anti-Occupy ordinances, crowd suppression technologies and paramilitary policing, then they make a hasty retreat to the safety of Camp David.

The world’s leaders flee from us … so what do we do? Maybe we just laugh at them?

On May 18, the day the G8 leaders meet in Camp David, why don’t we, the people of the world have a #LAUGHRIOT.

Let roars of laughter rise up from towns and cities everywhere at the spectacle of the world’s leaders trying to crisis manage the economy from behind closed doors and razor wire fences…

«o» Something is cooking in the talks between the Taliban and the Afghani government. The president teleconferenced yesterday with the Karzai ‘government’ and requested they keep the president informed as to the progress in negotiations. Meanwhile it has been announced that the US will transfer three thousand detainees to the Afghan government within three months. Expect many of them to be released simply for lack of evidence.

«o» The solar storm billed as an F3 major event turned out to be simply a good day for earthlings to get a suntan. There was no noticeable effect on the communications infrastructure or power grid on the planet, but there ARE a few days left in this solar event.

«o» It’s illegal, but HEY, it ‘gets the goods’… The Drone Wars in South Waziristan continue with fourteen SUSPECTED militants killed and the top al-Qaeda officer in the region confirmed killed last month.

«o» Another week of doing almost nothing - Congress has returned home for a week-long election year break after passing a minuscule small business and jobs bill as proof of the fact that the Republicans are still vertical and breathing to vote on bills at all.

«o» Alabama and Mississippi are seen as the key states in next week’s Republican primaries with no one campaigning in Kansas at all.

A Synopsis Of This Morning’s News…
H/t to ChrisM my MP3Angel for supplying the audio files.

«o» In yesterday’s Republican primary Mitt Romney won in Idaho, Massachusetts, Vermont, Virginia, and Alaska while holding the lead in Wyoming with 56% of the vote and 26% of the vote counted compared to Rick Santorum’s 30% currently. Santorum took Tennessee, North Dakota, and Oklahoma, Gingrich took Georgia, and Ron Paul had none. Next are some Southern state primaries where Santorum may do better in Mississippi and Alabama, but it’s pretty much all over, with Mitt Romney appearing to be the Republican presidential contender for 2012.

«o» President Obama has OK’d new talks with the Iranian government about their nuclear power program while Iran has said it will allow the IAEA and US inspectors into their military facilities.

«o» In Afghanistan six British soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in the capital of Helmand province. It’s winter in Afghanistan and no one from the West patrols outside the cities in those bitter conditions so the Taliban seem to be bringing the fight to the West.

«o» Apple Corp has invited guests for a viewing of it’s new iPad in San Francisco today, and it appears the media is the ‘guest’.

«o» Senator John McCain is holding hearings on US military policy towards Syria with Secretary of Defense Panetta on the stand today, while in Syria, the government has blown up the bridge connecting the country to Lebanon to staunch the flow of refugees out of the country ahead of a Libya-like invasion of the country by NATO.

A Synopsis Of This Morning’s News…
H/t to ChrisM my MP3Angel for supplying the audio files.

«o» President Obama and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel have had two days of rather intense conversations. Obama said he ‘has Israel’s back’ but there have been no written guarantees about anything. More.

Foreign Policy Magazine Morning Brief:

Top story: President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met in the Oval Office on Monday to try to coordinate their policies toward Iran. However, according to a White House official, it failed to resolve the basic disagreements between the two leaders over how to respond to Iran’s nuclear program.

Netanyahu said that Israel had not made a decision to launch a military strike against Iran, but sounded a skeptical note that international sanctions and isolation would force Tehran to abandon its nuclear program. He also made the case that the White House should not resume negotiations with Iran until it agreed to suspend its uranium enrichment procedures.

Obama, meanwhile, emphasized that sanctions were doing grave damage to the Iranian economy and could still force Tehran to negotiate over its nuclear program. The president highlighted impending EU oil sanctions and sanctions against Iran’s central bank as evidence that pressure on Iran was escalating.

While the two leaders could not bridge the gap between their respective positions, they did agree to quiet down the talk of war in their countries. Obama had raised the concern that fears of a strike on Iran were driving up oil prices, and thereby undermining sanctions.

MEANWHILE, in a glaring example of democracy in Iran there will be a…

New trial for accused American spy: Iran’s Supreme Court threw out a death penalty conviction against Amir Mirzaei Hekmati, a former U.S. Marine accused of espionage, and ordered a new trial. [Links and more @ FP Morning Brief]
In OTHER peace efforts… Foreign Policy Magazine Middle East Daily Brief reports:

Iran said it will allow International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) investigators access to its Prachin military site, where the U.N. nuclear watchdog reported last year that explosives tests were conducted showing “strong indicators” of nuclear weapons development. IAEA officials made comments that they “have heard about possible sanitation” of the site but were denied access to the complex during a visit in February. According to Iranian diplomats in Vienna, “Parchin is a military site and accessing it is a time-consuming process, therefore visits cannot be allowed frequently.” The announcement came as Iran has tripled its monthly production of higher-grade enriched uranium and IAEA chief Yukya Amano expressed concerns Monday about “activities…ongoing at the Parchin site.” [More]
«o» SUPER SUPER SUPER Tuesday! Eleven states will choose their Republican delegates with four hundred nineteen up for grabs. Will Romney take Ohio? Can Newt take his home state Georgia? And EVERYONE is waiting to see if Ron Paul can win one in his home state of Virginia.

«o» The Sacramento California student protest had a moderate turnout of 15,000 yesterday with a number of raucous rallies around the Capitol, and they actually made it into the capitol building, but in the evening the police moved in and made fifty five arrests.

«o» A judge has ruled that all DUI arrests in San Francisco from 2006 until now are invalid! Because the police were pressing the wrong button… The TEST button, and every test was the same. No one in the department noticed. Expect a massive Class Action suit against the city.

«o» FORMER presidential candiate John McCain took the floor of the Senate yesterday and stumped for immediate military intervention, including a ground and bombing campaign, against Syria… No one was there to hear it.

In OTHER News:

An endnote of McCain-like bizarreness… Harpers Weekly Review has a bit on Iran, and some other events as well:

President Obama affirmed his commitment to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. “When the chips are down,” he said “I have Israel’s back.” North Korea permitted the International Atomic Energy Agency to inspect the country’s largest nuclear reactor in exchange for a quarter million tons of U.S. food aid. After the United States posted more than $5 million in bail, Egyptian officials lifted a travel ban imposed on seven Americans charged with operating unlicensed NGOs, leading Egypt’s parliament to open a probe. “We cannot accept any type of foreign intervention in Egypt’s affairs,” said house speaker Saad al-Katatni. The same day, the U.S. State Department publicly endorsed Egypt’s efforts to secure a $3.2 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund. Al Qaeda gunmen killed 25 Iraqi policemen in Haditha, and 140 people died in clashes following an Al Qaeda attack on army bases in southern Yemen. More than 200 Congolese died and at least 1,500 were wounded following a series of explosions at a munitions depot in Brazzaville. Vladimir Putin was elected president of Russia for the third time, thousands of opposition protesters rallied outside the Kremlin amid reports by international observers that the election was unfair, and a Moscow museum began staging a puppet show in which Putin comes to terms with the loss of his penis. Researchers determined that sperm cells lack a sense of smell, that American immigrants who speak English are healthier than those who do not, that the wealthy are more likely to take candy from children, and that Ötzi the Iceman was lactose intolerant. A section of the Great Wall of China was discovered in Mongolia.

A Synopsis Of This Morning’s News…
H/t to ChrisM my MP3Angel for supplying the audio files.

«o» Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum pulls off a Hat Trick last night by taking all three no-count Republican events, and Romney slid badly in at least one test. Michigan and Ohio host the Republican dog and pony show next. Details.

«o» After several years of denouncing political SuperPacs the president changes his mind and oked donations by anonymous rich donors and similar election riggers by his campaign committee. More.

«o» A senate committee cancelled it’s hearing yesterday on what to do about $100 million dollars in military aid for Egypt in light of the fact that the Egyptian military government wants to prosecute 19 Americans in the country for undermining their rule and 6 of those 19 Americans are currently holed up at the US embassy. More.

«o» The US State Department says it is going to cut half of it’s employees at the shoddily built but huge and fortress-like Baghdad Iraq embassy. Expect the janitors to go first.

«o» A 9th Circuit Court judge has ruled California’s ant-same sex marriage law know as Proposition 8 unconstitutional. It will undoubtedly end up in the US Supreme Court in the future. It’s worth noting that the 9th Circuit Court has the highest rate of cases overturned by the Supreme Court.

A Synopsis Of This Morning’s News…
H/t to ChrisM my MP3Angel for supplying the audio files.

«o» President Obama is about to sign off on sanctions against the Central Bank of Iran for ‘deceptive Practices’. This in the wake of Russia and China blocking sanctions in the UN Security Council against Iran AND Syria.

«o» In Syria, the government is bombing the city of Homs, which is apparently the center of rebel activity in the country, with artillery, and refugees are beginning to show up in other areas of the country.

o Robert Fisk has written an excellent article about who’s allied with who in the region, and why Bashar Assad of Syria is not particularly worried about the revolt

o Yesterday Wikileaks released US State Department cables showing the level of US planning behind the current destabilization operation in Syria. Fully indexed at Wikileaks Cable Viewer.

«o» Eastern Europe is on flood watch due to winter storms for the last week with huge accumulations of snow which is beginning to melt. Three dams are already at overflow levels and one small village has been washed out.

«o» Iran’s parliament is demanding president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad appear for questioning due to claims of mishandling Iran’s economy alleged by the theocratic end of the Iranian government, Elections are coming up where the hard line religious elements may attempt a power play.

«o» Obama’s Deficit Reduction plan is stalled in congress most likely until after the presidential elections. That plan includes new taxes on the rich and more. Details.

«o» The Republicans circus will be in Colorado and Minnesota today with a non-binding caucus and Missouri with a non-binding primary… Despite the fact that these events mean nothing, they’re still getting media coverage.

«o» One of our generals will go to Pakistan shortly for high level discussions about civilians killed in NATO drone strikes and perhaps re-opening the roads to US supplies that were cut off in the aftermath of a NATO airstrike on a government fort that left twenty four Pakistani troops dead. A Synopsis Of This Morning’s News…

[After the commentary Ray Wylie Hubbard takes us someplace NASTY which SOME PEOPLE actually pay to see… No, not the Republican convention… Courtesy of the respective artists and KPIG Radio Freedom California, Earth.]

«o» The Florida primary is in progress but it will be about eight hours until we start seeing the results. Meanwhile Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney are still insulting each other while EVERYONE is wondering where Rick Santorum’s campaign funds are coming from.

«o» Mic Check In Tahrir Square - The Egyptian protesters are demanding the military ruling junta turn over the government to their recently elected civilian government now while the military is clamping down on ‘international universities’ and searching for their Egyptian students… Then there’s the NGO the US Secretary of Labor’s son works for… The International Republican Institute… Six of the employees including the Secretary’s son have taken refuge at the US embassy.

Whatever it is the “International Republican Institute” is doing, it IS Not “Promoting Democracy”. Mark Weisbrot in the Guardian UK.

«o» The senate voted to curb insider trading by congressional and senatorial representatives yesterday. The vote was 93-2 Aye but the measure has yet to pass the house. Even if it does pass , expect no enforcement.

«o» There is a one day strike by unionized Kaiser-Permanente nurses throughout California today in an attempt to force the HMO to allow collective bargaining by nursing aides and other lower level staff. The last one day strike cost Kaiser $14 million dollars.

«o» More of a “Snake Farm” than it ever was - People have been dumping their pet Boa Constrictors in the Florida Everglades, which is the perfect environment for the HUGE WHEN FULLY GROWN reptiles. However, The Everglades contains no natural predators and the massive number of eight foot fully grown pythons resulting from that eco-imbalance is causing the count of small critters like bobcats and raccoons to plunge dramatically. More about reptiles in the commentary.
