Two media collage/music mixes about the cyberwar attacks of the online activist group Anonymous in response to the shutdown and arrests of megaupload by U.S. Dept of Justice that took place a day after sites like Wikipedia went black protesting the Stop Online Piracy Act and similar laws further restricting the internet. Anonymous took responsibility for a series of network attacks on January 19th 2012 on government and entertainment industry websites, after US officials shutdown of Megaupload,com and arrests of seven people across the globe on charges of distributing illegal copies of movies, music, and electronic books. Some sites experienced service disruptions; the Justice Department, Universal Music Group and BMI, which collects copyright royalties for composers, were knocked offline. The US Copyright Office and the Recording Industry Association of America sites were also attacked.

The following manual was recently released by the Department of Defense. The manual was produced by the DoD’s Joint Personnel Recovery Agency (JPRA) and used by instructors in the JPRA’s Survival Evasion Resistance Escape (SERE) courses to train participants for the potential experience of detention. According to Jason Leopold and Jeffrey Kaye of Truthout, the manual was reportedly consulted during high-level discussions in the Bush administration regarding potential “enhanced interrogation techniques.” Several techniques described in the manual are mentioned in a series of controversial memos commonly referred to as the “Torture memos” authored by Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel attorney John Yoo.
